Weekly Group Classes

Laura offers a weekly Suzuki group class for students enrolled in weekly private lessons.  Students reinforce techniques learned in their lessons, work on ensemble skills, make friends, and have fun!  For younger students, musical games may be used to reinforce musical concepts and teach theory and music reading skills.  Each spring, students have the chance to perform as a group on the Spring Festival.

Attendance at group class is a required part of studying with Laura.  Participation in group class teaches vital skills concerning working in a group, ensemble playing, the ability to simultaneously listen to oneself and those around oneself, a higher level of focus, and many other skills that cannot be fully addressed in the private lesson setting.  As a result, the weekly group class is just as important as the weekly private lesson.

For the group classes, Laura has teamed up with Kirby Ann Kay of West County Strings so students may have the benefit of working with a larger number of students as well as receiving feedback from another teacher.  The classes are held on Tuesday evenings and are taught by Kirby and Laura each week.
